Chennai
::By air
Chennai is connected to all important parts of the country
by the national carriers Indian Airlines and other private
domestic airlines. Apart from this there are several
international carriers which operate regular flights to
Chennai from foreign destinations.
Domestic: Indian airlines connects Chennai with Delhi,
Hyderabad, Mumbai, Calcutta, Madurai, Bangalore and Port
Blair among other destinations.

Air India also operates night flights between key cities
which offer a 25 percent discount over the regular fares.
Airport and transfers: Chennai is served by an
international airport. The Anna International Terminal and
the Kamarajar Domestic Terminal are situated at Thrisulam
17 km from the city centre. Regular pre-paid taxi
services, auto-rickshaws, and suburban trains provide easy
transfer to and from the terminals.
::By Rail
Broad gauge train services link the city to New Delhi,
Mumbai, Calcutta, Cochin, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Guwahati and many other
destinations.
The metre gauge train services cater to the south of
Chennai. Madurai, Rameshwaram, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin
being some of the important destinations on this network.
Chennai Central caters for all broad gauge services and
the Chennai Egmore station for all metre gauge services.
Both the stations are located at the heart of the city and
are easily accessible.

::By bus
One of the best inter-city and inter-state bus systems
cater to the needs of travellers to and from Chennai.
There are two main bus services which operate in the state
of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvalluvar Transport Corporation for
inter-city and J.J. Transport Corporation for inter-state.
Besides, transport coporations of all neighbouring
districts and states run regular services to and from
Chennai to all prominent destinations in southern India.
::By Sea
Chennai is connected by a passenger liner to Port Blair in
the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Reservations are
controlled by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and
the Shipping Corporation of India.
Getting around in Chennai
Local transport within the city and to the adjacent
satellite townships is both excellent and cheap. The city
bus services and the suburban trains provide fast and
economical modes of commutation. All route boards are
written in Tamil and English. Besides are auto- rickshaws
available throughout the city. Cycle- rickshaws can also
be used for short distances. This mode is not metered and
the rates must be negotiated before hiring.
